John S. Carleton, 90, of Camden passed away on April 16, 2012. He was born on July 3, 1921 in Rome, a son of William & Caroline Valentine Carleton. John was a graduate of the class of 1939 from Camden High School. He then entered the United States Army serving from 1944-1946 in the 399th Infantry Regiment 100th Division in Central Europe. On October 12, 1946, John was united in marriage to Dorthea S. Scales in McConnellsville, NY.
John worked as a machine operator for Rome Manufacturing for 42 years, retiring July 31, 1981. He was a lifetime resident of Camden, a member of the Arthur S. Moran American Legion #66, and the United Church of Camden (Presbyterian).
Surviving besides his wife of 65 years, is his daughter, Jo Ann & Ray Geitka, Beverly Hills, MI, a son, Jeffrey & Patricia Carleton, Fairport, NY, two grandchildren, Cheri & Dan Rothman, Gillian & Greg Janaczek, five great grandchildren, Jake, Ben, and Sophia Rose Rothman, Olivia & Julie Janaczek, a sister in law, Kathleen Scales, and several nieces & nephews. John was predeceased by two sisters, Alice Carver and Helen Billington and one brother Charles.

Funeral services will be held privately at LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc., 109 Main Street, Camden. There will be no calling hours. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care, New Hartford.
