Westdale-Richard M. VanSteen, 67, passed away June 3, 2012 at the Katherine Luther Home, Clinton, NY. He was born March 16, 1945, a son of Raymond & Lydia VanDamme VanSteen in Phelps, NY. Richard was a 1963 graduate of Whitesboro High School and in 1962 he became employed with Dairylea, working for them for twenty years. In 1987 he was employed as a high lift operator for McLain Trucking until his retirement in 2005. On October 13, 1989, Richard was united in marriage to Janet Grass. He enjoyed bowling and golf and participated in many leagues in the Camden and surrounding areas.
Richard is survived by his wife, Janet, three sons, Richard VanSteen, Cameron, NC, Russell & Tina VanSteen, Sanford, NC, and Frederick VanSteen, Pinehurst, NC, two stepsons, Robert & Emlyn Light, Sauquoit, NY, and Gary & Cathy Light, Weslaco, TX, seven grandchildren, one sister, Donna & George Prine, Lords Valley, PA, one brother, Michael & Collen VanSteen, Cedarville, OH, and several nieces and nephews.
Richard’s family would like to thank the staff at both St. Luke’s and the Luther Home for their compassionate care and concern shown to him.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc., 109 Main Street, Camden, NY. Contribution may be made in Richard’s name to a Hospice organization of choice.
