Camden NY - Margaret Evans-Ebensperger, 87, of Camden, NY passed from this Earth during the early morning of June 13th, 2012 at Oneida Health Center Oneida, NY after a brief illness.  She was born, August 22, 1924 in Utica, NY to Arthur and Gwen Grainger Evans. She was predeceased by a brother John.

She and her brother helped with the Evan’s family bakery, which operated from the 1940s to 60s. As a teen she delivered baked goods and bread from a basket mounted on her bicycle. Later on she gave up the bicycle route and helped with bookkeeping at the bakery.  This was the beginning of her strong work ethic.  As a student at Utica Free Academy she excelled at math, English, music and sports while helping with the family business.  She enjoyed knitting, crochet, swimming, water-skiing and loved playing the organ. For many years she played for Sunday services at St. John’s in North Bay NY and St. Mary’s in Sylvan Beach NY.  Her love of organ music led her to take additional lessons and she became proficient playing the pipe organ earning a certificate of achievement level A.  She was an administrative assistant for various employers while raising her two teenage sons, working at Walter’s Chevrolet Camden NY, The Rome Sentinel Rome NY, Densmore Electric Blossvale NY and did volunteer work for the Camden Methodist church.  She had the greatest desire to be productive and an active member of the world of work.

Margaret met her future husband Granville during high school.  Marriage plans were postponed until his return from the Pacific Theatre of Operations at the end of WWII.  After the war, they married, moved to Washington Mills, NY and had two sons, William and wife Angela who reside in Flint, Michigan and John and wife Linda who reside in Camden, NY.  William and John’s families have given Margaret the greatest joy with eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Peg was a customer of the flower shop. She would come in to buy her yarn while she knitted. I always enjoyed seeing her walk through the door, because I knew it would be an enjoyable visit. I loved listening to her talk about Wales, her family, and who she was knitting a present for. She was such a wonderful person, with a smile whenever you seen her. I will miss seeing her smiling face, her wonderful personality, and her stories.

Sincerely,
Amy Gerrard
