McConnellsville- Sophia S. Walters 88, formerly of McConnellsville Rd., passed away January 3, 2013 at the Presbyterian Home. She was born Nov 13, 1924 in New York Mills, NY a daughter of Joseph & Kathryn Rogowski Swaitloski. On Dec 1, 1945 she married Theodore K. Walters in Transfiguration Church, Rome, NY. Mr. Walters passed away Dec 29, 1994. Sophia, together with her husband, owned and operated Walters Chevrolet-Oldsmobile, Inc. for many years, where she served as the Corporation Secretary-Treasurer, retiring in 1985. She previously worked at Rhoads Hospital and Rome Air Depot.  She was a member of St. John’s Church and its Catholic Women’s Club, the Camden Business Professional Women’s Club, the McConnellsville Golf Club, and for many years, Sophia enjoyed working the Camden area Blood Mobiles.
Surviving are a daughter Kathy & Jack Radley, Sherrill, NY,  four sons, Andrew & Linda Walters, Camden,  David & DeDe Walters, Painted Post,  Frank & Crystal Walters, McConnellsville, and John Walters, Ithaca, NY, 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Jesse at age 3, her sister Laura Zarnoch, on July 5, 2012 and a great grandson, James Radley Mattioli, on 12/14/12, at the Sandy Hook Elementary School.
             The family would like to express their gratitude to the Presbyterian Home for the care and compassion shown to Sophia, especially to the Elm Unit, and all of the caregivers who were there insuring her comfort during her time spent at the home.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held from St. John’s Church, Camden, NY under the direction of the LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc., Camden, NY. As were Sophia’s wishes, there will be no public calling hours. Spring interment will be in the St. John’s Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the James Radley Mattioli Fund, c/o Newtown Savings Bank, 39 Main St., Newtown, CT  06470.

At this time of loss, may you find comfort in warm memories and in knowing others sympathize and care. I am so sorry for the loss of your wonderful Mother so soon after losing precious James. You are in my thoughts and prayers today and the days ahead. Your Mom and James are gone from our sight; however, they will never be gone from your hearts.

To the Walters family, I am so sorry to hear of Sophia's passing, She was a wonderful lady, and I will remember her coming into Eddie's Restaurant with that big smile of hers. So sweet! She is with our Lord and my prayers are with you all! God Bless!

Dee and I were sad to hear of the passing of Sophia she was a wonderful person and a great mother and grandmother and greatgrandmother she will be missed but the family will have many fond memories to remember her by.Dee and I will keep her in our prayers.

I was blessed to know and take care of Sophia (i called her Sophi Stella) and she loved that. Always loved when i called her that, she would laugh. I am happy she is at peace now, she was one of my favorite residents. Im sorry for your loss Kathy and your family. Sophia is taking care of James now, i know she is:)
