Music by The Piano Brothers

In the wee hours of January eighteenth 2018, the Angels came and lifted Marilyn Washburn’s spirit from her earthly body and carried her Home.  She was 83 years old.  As she entered Heaven, all her loved ones who passed before her greeted her.  Her son, James E. Washburn, her former spouse Jack E. Washburn, her parents Ed and Nellie Durgee, and other family members and friends.  She leaves behind a loving daughter, Julie A. Washburn and son-in–law Mark W. James, residing in California, and other family and friends. There’s also an earthly angel who gave Marilyn almost eight years of help, compassion and love. Julia Butts, from Camden, NY, was Marilyn’s caregiver and friend.  Julia became like a daughter to Marilyn, and a sister to Marilyn’s daughter Julie.

To all who knew her, Marilyn will be remembered forever as a loving mother, aunt and friend. She was a kind, selfless, giving, loving, forgiving and nonjudgmental soul.  To many, she was known as “Aunt Marilyn” even though they weren’t related.  Born at home, in Hillsboro, NY, on the Durgee farm, she lived her whole life in Camden, NY. She graduated from Camden Central High School in 1951, and went on to work for her alma mater in the “White House” as a receptionist and secretary.  After that, she worked for Camden Wire as a secretary and phone switch operator. After several years of not working, but being a hard working homemaker, mother, and friend, Marilyn went to Mohawk Valley Community College and received her Certified Caregiver Diploma, and worked for several years thereafter as a caregiver and respite provider.

For many years Marilyn was involved with the New York State Grange. In December of 1981 she became an official member of The National Grange maintaining her membership for the rest of her life.

Marilyn enjoyed 4H, the outdoors, hiking, camping, boating, waterskiing, gardening and crocheting.  Gardening and crocheting became her life passion. Marilyn lovingly crocheted many afghans for family and friends.  One beautiful afghan is loved and cherished in Istres France. Anyone who saw her flower gardens was blessed by their beauty and fragrance.

Most of Marilyn’s life she was a member of Hillsboro Baptist Church in Camden, NY.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Marilyn in the Camden area.  A service honoring her will be held at Hillsboro Baptist Church with a reception following. Time and date to be determined (late spring early summer.) Arrangements are under the direction of the LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc., 109 Main Street, Camden, NY 13316. Marilyn asked that in lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Hillsboro Baptist Church, P.O. Box 439, Camden, NY or Hospice & Palliative Care of Oneida, Herkimer and Eastern Madison Counties in her honor.
