Jane Kies Carmer was born in Battle Creek, Michigan on July 14, 1925 to Helen Stoll Kies and Dewitt Clinton Kies. After graduating from Battle Creek High School, she attended Hillsdale College, graduating in 1947. At college Jane was a very active member of her sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and continued her involvement with the sorority long after graduation.

While working in Cleveland, Ohio as a nursery school teacher, Jane met Dick Carmer through a mutual friend. Their blind date developed into a romance, and they were married on a snowy November day in 1949. The young couple relocated to Williamsville, New York for a short period of time before settling in East Aurora, New York, a close suburb of Buffalo. Over the next several years, their family grew to include children Rick, Lisanne, Dewitt and Jamie. Once the children were a little older, Jane and a close friend, Penny Stark, started a nursery school in East Aurora, and they managed it together for several years.

In 1971, Jane and Dick relocated to McConnellsville, New York, where Jane became involved with the Queen Village Nursery School in Camden, New York for a number of years. Their home in McConnellsville was situated on the local golf course, which gave both Jane and Dick the opportunity to play golf at leisure, which they enjoyed immensely. Jane was also an active member of the McConnellsville Garden Club, and the loving home she created for her family was often graced with the floral arrangements she created from her own gardens.

Once Dick retired from the furniture business, Jane helped establish and manage the Clothing Connection, a not-for-profit clothing store in Camden, for many years. The store is affiliated with the nonprofit Cluster 13; Jane’s efforts touched many in the community in a lasting way.

As she and her husband Dick passed into their 90's, they sold their home in McConnellsville and moved into The Nottingham, a continuum of care facility in Jamesville, New York.

Jane passed away peacefully at The Nottingham on November 20, 2019, at the age of 94. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Dick in August 2019, and she leaves behind her four children, and six grandchildren. Services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc., 109 Main Street, Camden, New York.
