Eugene ‘Gene’ H. Monica 76, of Taberg, NY passed away Friday January 25, 2019 at his home after a long illness. He was born in Watertown, NY on Feb 4, 1942 a son of Edward & Gladys Gilbo Monica and was a 1960 graduate of Watertown High School. On January 18, 1964 he married the former Pamela Hagerty in Irondequoit, NY. Gene was a longtime employee of the former Acme Markets managing stores in Gouveneur and New Hartford, NY. Later, he worked for the Omega Wire Co., as their shipping manager for many years, retiring from the International Wire Co., in 2007. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, boating and camping, playing cards as well as the machines at the casino. His greatest hobby was gardening and working in his yard. His huge gardens usually became a local food bank for family and friends.
His family would like to thank Hospice & Palliative Care, the doctors and staff out at Upstate Medical Cancer Center for their care and compassion shown to Gene and his family and especially the many friends and family for their love and support during Gene’s illness.
Surviving are his wife, Pamela, three daughters, Korena & George Freeman, Little Rock, AR, Suzanne Monica, Camden and Tracy & Bill Bivins, Knobnoster, MO, 8 grandchildren; Katie, Erin, Nathan, Sara, Michaela, Emily, Travis, Derek and two great grand-daughters, Emma and Ivy, two sisters, Jacqueline Lamica, Watertown and Patricia & Bill Tolbert, Waterford, NY and several nieces & nephews. Besides his parents, Gene was predeceased by a grand -daughter, Brianna, a sister, Barbara Hurlbert and a brother, Francis Monica.
Funeral services will be held 10:00am Wednesday from LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc., Camden, NY. Calling Hours will be held Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the funeral home, 109 Main Street. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care, New Hartford, NY or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Memphis, TN.

Our condolences on your father's passing. Whenever we asked permission to stock salmon behind his house, Gene was always agreeable and enthusiastic. You told me he enjoyed boasting to his friends that
"They're stocking salmon in my backyard!". I'm glad we were able to give him that pleasure. His big smile will be missed.
