Camden – Merva M. Walasek 95, passed away July 4, 2012. She was born Oct 29, 1916 in Dodge, ND a daughter of Solomon & Zema Lloyd Martz. After graduating from Camden High School in 1933, Merva attended Oswego Normal School, graduating in 1937. She was a teacher for one year in district 14 Hardenburg Arena, NY and for four years at District 14, Florence, NY. After her children were all in school, she tutored children who were homebound. She remained friends with many of her former students. On Nov 23, 1938 she married Stanley J. Walasek. He passed away May 24, 2009.
Merva became a 4-H member in 1927 and became a 4-H leader teaching sewing. She joined the Camden Grange #354 in 1942 and held offices of Secretary, Lecturer and Master. Merva was a member of Oneida County Pomona Grange and was also a delegate to State Grange several times. In 1950, she became a member of the Redfield Rebekah Lodge #673 and served in the offices of Outside Guardian, Warden, Secretary, Vice-Grand, Noble Grand and District Deputy.
She is survived by two daughters, Caroline and Dave Richardson, Sterling, NY and Norayne and Ricardo Rosero, Sauquoit, NY, a granddaughter, Donna Lynn Walasek, three grandsons, Nolan, Jonah and Connor, Ontario,NY, a daughter in law, Karen Walasek, Oneida, foster daughter, Sonia Rowe, VA and a sister in law, Pauline Mycka and her three children, John, Rosalie and Susan Mycka, two special cousins, Rose Leach Stein, WA and Viola Pitts, WA and a cousin ‘niece’ Carol and Gary Kline, IA and her two beloved cats, Mitzy and Jasper. Besides her husband she was predeceased by a daughter, M. Dawn Walasek, son, Lyndon , sister, Debrah Martz, two brothers, Ronald & Richard Martz, three special cousins, Zella Leach Murray, Rhoda Martz Kell and Alice Martz Andreessen.
Private graveside services will be held in Maple Hill Cemetery, Taberg, NY under the direction of the LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc, Camden, NY. There will be no public calling hours or services. The family would like to thank Merva’s relatives, friends, neighbors, Grange and Rebekah brothers and sisters for all their cards, letters, calls, visits and food. Also, and most important, Merva and her family wishes to thank the women who provided wonderful care for her, especially her friend and ‘adopted granddaughter’, Denya. Please make memorial contributions to the Florence Fire Dept., Camden, NY.

Norayne and family: we were so sorry to learn of your loss. Please know that you and the family are in our thoughts and prayers. People are very fortunate to have their parents for such a long time. At 95 I am sure she had a wonderfulnlife, endured much, and loved her family dearly. Cherish your wonderful memories and feel the love of family and friends during this difficult time.
