Music by The Piano Brothers

Bennie Jesse Darou, 78, of Depauville, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 with his loving children around him. Bennie, a wonderful father, husband, brother, son, and friend, was born to William Levingston, Sr. and Mignonette Denny Darou on May 22, 1937. He was brother to Manola Sherman, William Levingston Darou, Jr, and Lonnie Darou who preceded him in death.

Bennie, who was married to Clara Irene Willix, Martha Stark Newton, and Roberta Wicks Calhoun, was the beloved father to several children; Penny of Camden, NY who he has entrusted the care of to David Massey; Pamala Jean of Athens, GA, who he entrusted the care of to Tim Burgess; and son Charles (Chad) Darou of Harrisville, NY who he entrusted the care of to Liza Atkinson Darou.

He was loved well by several stepchildren, including Joanne Newtown Shaw, Kerry Jean Newtown Forsythe, Marcy Newtown Calhoun, James Brown, Josh Shaw, Dana Lee Harris, Donald Newtown Sharie Richardson, Lynn Kirsch, and Leslie Fry, who, along with their families, loved him like a father. Bennie was a devoted and fun-loving grandfather and got much joy from all of his grandchildren & great-grandchildren: James and Jessie Massey & children Christofer, Juliana & Nicole; Jason Massey & daughter Rayna Massey; Nathan Darou, Richard Darou; Stephanie Forsythe & sons Donnie & Frank; Timothy, Michael, Arielle, and Robert Kirsch, Roxanne Derrickson, and Sophie Fry.

Bennie served in the Army Reserves and was an accomplish archer who loved competing and teaching others. His good friend and fellow archer, Herb Moore, summed Bennie up the best saying he was one of the kindest and smartest men he knew. "I never heard a mean thing come out of his mouth. He was one of the best men there ever was."

Before he left, Bennie sent a message to all in his life: "I have lived 78 wonderful years and have known so much love. I am ready to go, although I will miss you all. I love you so much there are no words and I will meet you at the gates of Heaven."

Bennie's friends and family celebrated his life in a private picnic shortly after his passing, which was Bennie's wish. The entire family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the 4th floor of Oneida Healthcare Center for their care and compassion during Bennie's stays. The family also asks that donations be sent to Gasparilla Bowmen, 17302 Dale Mabry Hwy North, Lutz, FL, 33549 or Double D Archery, 63 Lake George Road, Russell, NY 13684 in lieu of flowers. Double D Archery is purchasing two youth bows that will be engraved with "In Memory of Bennie Darou" with the donations.
Arrangements are under the direction of the LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc., 109 Main St., Camden, NY.

I'm very sad to hear of Uncle Bennie's passing. A huge part of my childhood memories include him and the family. Boating and picnics, snowmobiling, fishing, weekends at camp, and getting in trouble with the sisters (usually Joanne). He has often been in my thoughts over the years especially his and Levy's connection to my Dad. My condolences to all of you girls and your brother...May you rest in peace, Uncle Bennie

Heartfelt sympathy to the family. I met Bennie in 1984 when I learned how to clog & my 1st show was with him, Martha & myself. He was a great guy & always ready to help in anyway. Saw him only occasionally over the years as he moved away, but I know he would want the family to remember all the good times & good memories.

For the short time we knew your Dad, we could see what a wonderful father and loving person he was. Know that you are in our thoughts and prays. God Bless you all!
