Mary Theresa Womble, 92, of Camden, NY passed away on November 1, 2016 at Bethany Gardens in Rome, NY. She was born February 26, 1924 in Union City, Tennessee. She was the eldest daughter of Kathleen Ophelia Zilla Park Jonakin and Darrell Joseph Jonakin. She served in the U.S. Army as a ward nurse from 1944-1946. She received several medals of which the Good Conduct medal was her favorite. On December 15, 1946 in St. Louis, Missouri she married Cecil Rodney Womble.
Mary was a master seamstress, sewing not only for her family but also for her custom clothing shop in Syracuse Commons during the 1970’s. She attended art and literature classes at Onondaga Community College, her sketches are treasured by her children and grandchildren. Mary was an avid gardener and every spring enjoyed her poppies and sunflower blooms. Her lifelong love of reading continued until the day she died. Mom was a woman ahead of her time, she lived life on her terms. She was predeceased by Dad and we miss them every day.
Surviving Mary are four children, Resa Womble, Baldwinsville, Regan Womble, Camden, John Womble, Colton, and Amy Grabowski, Baldwinsville, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
