Ronald E. Chase, Sr. 78 of Blossvale, NY passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. He was born February 14, 1939 in Colton, NY, the son of Donald & Lula Trudell Chase. He served with the U.S. Army from 1957-59.

Ron loved to tell the tales of the many jobs he had starting out as a boy, but his most well known are the many years he worked for Marshall & Houseman Co., in Sherrill, NY as Parts Manager.  Then on March 29, 1982, his life changed in two incredible ways. His first grandchild, Korey May Gates, was born and he started his own business with Snap-On tools. He spent the next 25 years traveling the tri-county area as the “Snap-on Man”, a title he was very proud of. He was truly an American success story—starting life with so little and with only his own hard work became a successful self-made business man.

During those years he enjoyed spending his off hours at home with his wife, Helen and watching NASCAR races with his best “Buddy”, grandson Ryan Cobb. He took pride in all of his grandchildren: Korey Gates, Katie (Gates)Sommerville, Joshua Chase, Amanda (Chase) Broniszewski, Andrew Walters, Justin Chase, Ronald Chase III, Travis Chase, Ryan Cobb and James Cobb. He took great joy in watching them all grow up, get married and double his joy by giving him a total of 11 great grandchildren.

On March 16, 2007, he lost his beloved wife of 47 years after a lengthy battle with breast cancer. Although he was broken hearted with her loss, he was able to move forward in life when he met Patricia Bielby. He & Patricia traveled the countryside including an incredible Alaskan Cruise. They married November 11, 2011.

Unfortunately in the last year, his travels came to an end, as he began another journey...struggling to overcome complications from lifelong Type I Diabetes. His valiant fight to regain his health and get back to the things he loved ended Tuesday morning, January 9, 2018. He was 78 years old and fond of saying what an amazing life he had led.

He is survived by his wife Patricia Bielby Chase; his five children; Donald & Amy Chase, Karen & Stephen Gates, Kimberly Walters, Ronald Chase, Jr and Kathy Cobb & Bill Portner; step-son Robert Smith, two brothers; Richard and Edward Chase and a sister, Debbie Herringshaw. He is predeceased by his sisters Patricia Chase Sevey and Leona Chase and step son Melvin Smith.

He will be laid to rest in a private service, next to his beloved wife Helen, in McConnellsville Cemetary on January 12, 2018 after calling hours and funeral services at LaRobardiere Funeral Home, 109 Main Street, Camden, NY 11:00 -2:00 pm.
