     Alexa Nicole Nowak, 20, of Ava, NY passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, February 12, 2018 at the University of Tampa, in Tampa, FL. She was born on August 23, 1997 in Ashtabula, OH, a daughter of Edward & Jeanette Schofield Nowak. She was a 2016 graduate of Rome Free Academy and a current Dean’s List honor student of the University of Tampa as a business and marketing major. Alexa was a member of the National Honor Society. She was active in sports, primarily volleyball and long distance running. She was inducted to the Rome Sports Hall of Fame for volleyball. Alexa loved the attractions of Disney World which began her love of Florida.

     Alexa is survived by her parents, Edward & Jeanette Nowak, Ava; brothers and sisters, Lauren (Walter) Park, and their children, Mya and Ethan of Rome, Melissa Nowak (Nicholas Schumaker) of Chicago, IL, Ryan Nowak, and Brendan Nowak both at home; maternal grandparents, Sarge & Sue Schofield, Rochester; paternal grandmother, Lucy Nowak, Syracuse; several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her paternal grandfather, Edward Nowak.

     A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, February 17, 2018 from the LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc. where The Very Reverend Marian Pociecha will officiate. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery, Camden, NY. Calling hours will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the start of funeral services at the funeral home, 109 Main St., Camden, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the University of Tampa  online at  www.ut.edu/giving please select “in memory of  Alexa Nowak,” or by check payable to the University of Tampa please write “in memory of Alexa Nowak” in the memo, University of Tampa, C/O Office of Development and University Relations, 401 W. Kennedy Blvd., Box H, Tampa, FL 33606.

Jeannette, there is nothing more difficult or heart wrenching than to lose a child. I can’t imagine the sorrow you and your family must be feeling. My prayers are with all of you. Eventually, slowly, the pain will fade but the memories will always be there. Cherish them!
