Theodore (Ted) R. Chesnut, Sr., 85, of Altmar, NY, passed away at home on October 8, 2018 after a long journey with heart disease.

Ted was born on August 6, 1933 in Kittanning, PA, where he was raised by his beloved grandparents, Edward & Laura Chesnut. He graduated from Kittanning High School in 1952.
Ted moved to Jamestown, NY shortly after graduation and was in the Ironworkers Union for more than 22 years. He then moved to the Oswego and Syracuse area to pursue Hotel Management. He retired from APW High School as a Maintenance Mechanic in 1999 after 17 years. Ted was always happiest building with wood, fabricating, and repairing things. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Pulaski, NY. He was very active with his grandchildren, often seen at school sporting events, concerts, and plays. One of his greatest joys was being called “Papa” and “Grandpa.”

Ted was married to Jeanne O’Rourke Chesnut on July 1, 1983 and they lived in Oswego County their entire married life. Ted & Jeanne lived in the log home they built in Pulaski, NY for over 25 years before moving to Altmar, NY in 2014 to be closer to family.

Ted is survived by his wife of 35 years, Jeanne; children, Angela (Mark) Christmas Mattison of Richland, NY, James (Jackie) Denson of Fulton, NY, Ruth Ann Mench and Ted Chesnut, Jr., both of Salamanca, NY, Randy Chesnut of FL, daughter in law, Dottie Chesnut of Mexico, NY; brothers, Rick (Nancy) Chesnut of Bradford, PA and Larry (Debbie) Chesnut of Dubois, PA and nine beloved grandchildren and one great grandson. Ted is predeceased by one daughter, Sherrie.

Ted’s family would like to extend their most sincere thanks to Oswego County Hospice and the LVAD unit at Strong Memorial Hospital-University of Rochester Medical Center for their wonderful care and support throughout his journey.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, October 13, 2018 from St. James Episcopal Church, Pulaski, NY under the direction of the LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc., Camden, NY. Calling hours will be held from 4:00-7:00 P.M., Friday, October 12, 2018 from the funeral home, 109 Main Street.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Friends of Oswego County Hospice, P.O. Box 102, Oswego, NY 13126 or Advance Heart Failure Program C/O Leway Chen, 601 Elmwood Ave., Box 679T, Rochester, NY 14642.
