     Leon Nicholas Harrington, 72, lifetime resident of Amboy Center passed away peacefully on Friday, April 19, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 24, 1946 in Oneida, NY a son of Arthur Otis & Harriett Elizabeth Hayes Harrington. Leon proudly served with the United States Navy from 1964 until 1966. His last duty assignment abroad was the USS Holland in Spain. Leon was united in marriage to the former Helen Margaret Birmingham on June 24, 1967 at St. John’s Evangelist Catholic Church in Camden, NY. He previously worked at various local wire mills and retired as a machinist from Syracuse Castings Sales Corporation, Cicero, NY in 2008.

     He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, camp fires, playing softball and visiting with friends and neighbors. Leon once won first place at the ax throwing contest at Pine Grove Inns Woodsmen Field Days in Panther Lake. Leon’s greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.

     Leon is survived by his wife, Helen Harrington and together they have three daughters, Lisa Ann Harrington, Lorri Lee Westermann and Cathleen Beth Harrington, ten grandchildren, Chelsea & Sean Stinson, Kevin Mixon, Margaret Smithler, Roy, Cassandra and Christina Koch, William, Wesley and Cathleen Westermann and Nicholas Harrington, two great grandchildren, Anaya Spoon and Mariah Mixon, one brother, Thomas & Catherine Harrington and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Leon was predeceased by one sister, Dorothy & Robert Warren and two brothers, Arthur & Paula Harrington and David Harrington.

     A Memorial Mass will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 25, 2019 from the St. John’s Evangelist Catholic Church, Camden, NY. Interment West Amboy Cemetery, West Amboy, NY. Calling hours will be held 4:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 24, 2019 from the LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc., 109 Main Street, Camden, NY.
