     William E. Sanford, 92, of Camden, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, August 2, 2019. He was born on May 26, 1927 in Camden a son of Harold & Vivian McDaniels Sanford and graduated in 1945. Bill proudly served with the United States Army from 1945 until 1947. He was employed by EW Sanford & Son a wholesale gas and oil business of Main Street in Camden.

     On July 23, 1949 he married the former Beverly Strail, daughter of Donald & Ella Dunn Strail in the United Methodist Church in Camden by Reverend Carlton VanOrnam.

     Bill was an active member of the United Methodist Church serving as Lay Leader, Sunday school teacher, part-time organist, member of the United Methodist Men and sang in the church choir. He loved to cook and was very active and involved in many church suppers while a member.  Bill also served as the Lay Pastor at the First Congregational Church of Osceola.

     Bill also served many years as a delegate to the Camden Area Council of Churches and coordinated the Baccalaureate services for graduating seniors.

     He was very active in Boy Scouts of America and served as a Cub Scout Master.
In 1963 he left his employment with EW Sanford & Son and entered college at SUNY Oswego and received a Bachelor of Science degree.  In 1966 he began teaching at Williamstown Elementary (APW School District) and retired 23 years later. He was also a member of the NYS Teachers Association.

     Bill spent many of his summer vacations painting houses and doing odd jobs. He and his wife enjoyed years of foster parenting, Square Dancing and belonged to the Queen Village Squares.
Bill was a member and Past President of the Camden Villagers.

     Later in life, he and his wife, Beverly, became members of the Queen Village Bible Church where he loved to attend and to sing for his Lord whenever possible.

     Other than his Lord, Bill loved his family and was the happiest whenever he was spending time, chatting, camping and playing games with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

     Survived by his wife of 70 years, Beverly; his son, Brian & Marcia Sanford of Clay, NY; his daughters, Deborah & David Loiacono of Camden, NY and Rebecca & Chris Guianen of Centerville, PA; four grandchildren; James & Rhonda Sanford; Christina & Kevin Quinn; Sara & Benjamin Waterstraat, Joshua & Richelle Loiacono and a step-grandson, Jordan Guianen, five great-grandchildren: Caleb Quinn, Jacob Quinn, Colin Quinn, Adrianna Loiacono and Gianna Loiacono and also several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents Bill was predeceased by an infant brother, Robert Sanford.

     A celebration of Bill’s life will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, August 10, 2019 from the Queen Village Bible Church, 10050 Wolcott Hill Road, Camden, NY.  Private interment, Forest Park Cemetery, Camden, NY. Calling hours will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the start of services at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Bill’s memory may be made to Queen Village Bible Church.  Arrangements are under the direction of the LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc., 109 Main Street, Camden, NY.

Debbie, Bev. and all concerned. We were so saddened to hear of the passing of Bill. He is in a far better place now singing and rejoicing at the feet of Jesus. We know we shall see him again some day.

Bill was such a kind man and so is his wife Bev. I loved working in dietary and visiting with them every day. Bill always made me laugh. I’m so sorry for your loss.

Mr. Sanford was my fifth grade teacher. One of those teachers whose memory sticks with you throughout life. Reading about his life makes me wish I knew him as an adult. My condolences to his whole family during this time.
