Dorothy M. Walker 84, of Camden, NY passed away at her home on Friday Oct 11, 2019. She was born July 20, 1935 in Ft. Ann, NY a daughter of Floyd & Mildred Burch Lahue. Dorothy was a 1953 graduate of Camden Central Schools and received her BA in Elementary Education from SUNY Oswego in 1957. On July 5, 1958 she married Thomas Q. Walker in Camden, NY at the United Methodist Church. She taught school at Ridge Mills Elementary for two years before beginning her 30 year career at Camden Middle School teaching English and Remedial Math. Dorothy retired in 1990 from teaching and was a member of the NYSRTA and Camden Retired Teachers Assoc., also serving as Union representative for many years. A member of the Camden Middle School Music Boosters and a skilled seamstress, she at one time made the uniforms for the Camden Middle School Marching Band. Dorothy was also active with the McConnellsville Garden Club, area Brownie and Cub Scout troops as well as the 4-H program.
Surviving besides her husband Tom are their four children, Kevin & Carol Walker, Jacksonville, FL, Laurie & Clark Scharett, Ilion, NY, Chris & Mary Walker, Camden, NY and Lisa & Paul Hilliker, Chittenango, NY, seven grandchildren; Benjamin, Timothy & Michael Scharett, Casey Riegler, Andrew Walker, Isabel and Quinton Hilliker and a great grandchild, Lenyn Riegler, a sister, Nancy Brummitt, North Carolina and several nieces & nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by a brother, Raymond Lahue and two sisters, Jean Lahue and Janice Peacock and a daughter in law, Lisa Walker.
Private funeral services are under the direction of the LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc., Camden, NY. Interment Fish Creek Landing Cemetery. There will be a public Celebration of Life at a time to be announced. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care, New Hartford, NY or the Alzheimer’s Association of CNY, Syracuse, NY in lieu of flowers.
