Music by The Piano Brothers

Ronald E. Jones, 95, of Florence, NY, passed away at home on March 18, 2020 surrounded by his family. Ronald was born April 26,1924, the second child of Floyd H. & Ethel R. Bardin Jones. Ron was a lifelong resident of Florence having attended grade school there, and high school at Redfield Union School, where he graduated in 1941.

In 1942, Ron bought the Mad River Stock Farm that he grew up on from his father and mother to become a dairy farmer. In 1957, Ron earned his private pilot license. In 1959, he started a long career of being a salesman for Lubrication Engineers of Texas that lasted 54 years. In 1983, Ron became a certified Ultra-Light pilot and also became a Quick Silver Ultra-Light dealer. In 2013 at the age of 90, the Texas based firm let Ron go. He then went to work as a salesman for Central Petroleum Co., always making the joke “I will retire when I get old enough”.

On January 24,1971, Ron married a Florence girl, the love of his life, Toneta ‘Tena” Davis. It was never Ron or Tena; it was always Ron and Tena everywhere the couple went.

Ron was an avid hunter and trapper, having hunted in Alaska, Newfoundland, Canada, Wyoming, Colorado, and the state of Montana, the state he loved most due the many friends he had made in the 60 years of hunting in “Big Sky Country”.

Ron was a very talented self-taught musician who enjoyed playing piano, keyboard, organ, accordion, guitar and ukulele all by ear. He also had a wonderful singing voice to accompany his talent, enjoying every minute of entertaining. From 1995 to 2004, Ron supplied dinner and dancing music at Cedar Pines Restaurant in North Osceola. From 2005 to 2010, he also provided music at Ernie’s Lakeland Café, as well as other events and special occasions.

Surviving is his wife of 49 years, “Tena”, four sons; Gary of Kalama, WA, Wayne of Kenbridge, VA, Robert & Bernadine and Floyd Jones of MA, eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, a brother, Roger & Donna Jones of NH and several nieces and nephews. Ron was predeceased by a brother Robert who passed at age 17, a sister Wanda Johnson in 2016, two infant daughters, Gail and April, and a “favorite uncle”, Joe D’Aiuto.

Due to the Coronavirus gathering restrictions, services will be private. Funeral services are under the direction of LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc., 109 Main Street, Camden, NY. Interment to be held at Fairview Cemetery in Williamstown, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Florence Volunteer Fire Department, 11910 Thompson Corners-Florence Road, Camden, NY.

Very sorry for the passing of my friend Ron. Ron call on me at the Town of Salisbury Highway garage for many years selling for L-E and Cen-Pe-Co oil companies. Ron always made sure he gave me some Maple syrup and Jam. My wife and I will miss him! Condolences to his wife Tena and family.

Tena, I am deeply sorry for your loss. I still remember our snowmobiling that one winter. If you need someone to talk to, don't hesitate to give me a call. I'm here for you.
