Camden-David S. Wafer 60, of North Hillsboro Road, passed away February 8, 2011 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. He was born November 9, 1950 in Syracuse, NY, son of Harvey & Barbara Little Wafer. David attended Syracuse schools and graduated from Chittenango Central School in 1968. He then attended Onondaga Community College. On November 1, 1969, he married Linda Johnson in Chittenango. During his youth he spent many happy summers in Camden with his aunt and uncle, John and Ailene Jayne. He resided in Camden for 39 years. David was employed at Kemper Insurance, Syracuse, in 1968, in their data processing department. Through the years he advanced to manager of their bond, boiler and burglary department. In 1987 he began working at Ellis Insurance, Camden. He advanced to partner/owner of the agency and watched it expand, adding offices in Constantia and Cazenovia. It was important to David to provide the best for his customers. He considered his co-workers and customers as friends. He was a member of several insurance association memberships and organizations, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Camden United Methodist Church for several years.
David spent many hours working, building his home, in his woods, and “doing Linda’s projects”. David cherished his wife and children. His grandchildren were the light of his life and always made him happy. He had pride in his family; and they all had realized his love for them. He loved camping in Inlet and traveling the Adirondacks. David loved to watch and talk about sports, especially SU.
Over the years he coached Little League, youth basketball and youth soccer. He took great pleasure in watching his children participate in sports.
Surviving are his wife, Linda; three daughters, Carrie & Will Buetow, Glenville, Jennie Wafer, Burlington, VT, and Annie Skinner, Canastota; one son, Daniel Wafer, Vernon; son-in-law, Greg Wafer, Blossvale; three grandchildren, Gabriel, Claire, and James; a brother, Stephen & Maureen Wafer, Bridgeport; mother & father-in-law, Kathryn & Roger Johnson; sister-in-law; Sharon Burkard, Liverpool; brother-in-law, Mark Johnson, Syracuse; nieces, Suzanne Wallace, Christine Burkard, and Eliza Johnson; nephew Alex Wafer; a great niece and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm, Saturday, Feb 12, 2011 from LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc., Camden, NY. Calling hours will be held Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 at the funeral home, 109 Main Street. Memorial contributions may be made to the Camden Library, or a local youth sports organization of your choice. Was so very sorry to hear of my cousin; David's passing...Haven't seen him since he was a young boy...My heartfelt prayers go out to his family. Linda; the love of his life and his children, grandchildren and brother Steve...Was very taken back since he was still so very young..So sorry we didn't keep in touch over the years.I was also not contacted when my cousin Thelma and her brother Robert passed away and didn't find out until I received information from some law firm from Syracuse regarding my Aunt Irene's and Uncle Bill's estate...Again Linda; you and your family are in my prayers.... Dear Linda, I was so sadden to hear of Davids passing. We were neighbors, not to close ,but the same road. I can still remember the time manny years ago you and David came to our home, to invite us to your church. You made us feel so welcome into the community. We were strangers to this part of the country. Johnny being in the Military for 20 years, and we wanted to settle in Camden. When you and David came to our home it was a blessing. Thank you, after 30 years, see sometimes we make an impact on someone and we do not even realize what we have done. And I loved Davids Mom she was such a super person, loved her and Fran.I know they are all in Heaven together, and looking down on us,and watching over us. God bless you and your family. Shirley
