Jane Curtiss Watkin 97, of Rochester passed away Thursday May 14, 2020 at Highland Hospital, Rochester.
Jane was born May 10,1923 in Camden, NY to Ralph Woods Curtis and Eleanor Watkin Curtiss.
Jane was a 1940 graduate of Camden High School and 1945 graduate of Rochester School of Nursing with a BS and RN degree. She worked at Strong Memorial Hospital for 40 years retiring in 1985. Jane’s work in the Out Patient Department as a nurse, supervisor and administrative director saw many changes. Implementation of Medicare and Medicaid, combining private offices and clinic functions into a new outpatient wing, separating one out patient department budget into 10 separate clinic budgets for better control were some of her special projects.
On May 17,1980 Jane married Keith E. Watkin in Westdale Federated Church. After retiring in 1985 she returned to “Farm Life” in Oriskany Falls for 10 years. They moved back to Camden where Keith died in 2011.In 2012 Jane moved to St. John’s Meadows in Rochester to be near her nieces.
Jane was a member of South Presbyterian Church in Rochester where she was an active choir member until the age of 96.
In addition to her parents and husband Jane was predeceased by her brother Earl and his wife Anita and her dear cousin Marian R. Smith, home she considered a sister. She is survived by her nieces Carol A. Curtiss and Christine B. Curtiss-Rivers, five step-children Keith L (Mary Louise) Watkin, Douglas E. (Kimberly)Watkin, Carol (Aldo) Salati, Elizabeth (Nicholas) Charest and Barbara (Levert Sanders) Shumpert, 12 Step grandchildren, 16 Step great-grandchildren, 1 Step great-great grandchild.
