Robert John Halliwell 78, of Camden, NY passed away Sunday, November 29, 2020 at Crouse-Irving Hospital after a brief illness. He was born August 1, 1942 in Rome, NY, a son of Caradoc & Harriette Munn Halliwell, and was a 1960 graduate of Rome Free Academy. John served with the U.S. Air Force prior to a 39 year career at Rome Cable Corp where he retired as Quotations Manager. Following retirement, he worked at Mystic Stamp Co., Camden, NY for five years.
John was a longtime member, and current treasurer, of Abundant Life Community Church, where he particularly enjoyed greeting people on Sunday mornings. In addition to the many wonderful times with his family and friends, he had numerous interests, including snowmobiling, NY Yankees baseball, and especially genealogy research to develop his family tree. We are saddened, but blessed to know he is with his Savior, Jesus Christ, and we will meet again.
Surviving are his wife of 37 years, the former Phyllis McCarthy, whom he married on July 2, 1983 in Camden, NY, his son, Ronald & Maureen Halliwell, Leominster, MA, three stepsons, Daniel & Laurie Phelps, Webster, NY, Timothy & Kristin Phelps, Bluffton, SC, David & Charis Phelps, Webster, NY, 8 grandchildren, a sister, Anna Beatrice Sharpe, Verona, NY and several nieces, nephews and many dear friends. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Julie Halliwell LaBrie, three sisters, Mary Elizabeth Smith, Roberta Jean Halliwell and Harriette Louise Halliwell.
We would like to express our gratitude to the doctors and nurses in the Crouse-Irving Covid Unit for their excellent and compassionate care.
Private funeral services under the direction of LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc., Camden, NY will be held at the Abundant Life Community Church, Camden, NY. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Abundant Life Community Church Grocery Store Fund, to be opened soon to benefit our community.
