Diane Charlotte Fanning Hayes, 65, of Camden, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 20, 2020, at Rome Memorial Hospital after being stricken at home.
She was born on July 1, 1955, in Rome, the daughter of Donald and Carol Stephenson Fanning. As a child, she attended Camden Elementary School and Camden Central Junior and Senior High School, graduating in 1973.
She attended Camden United Methodist Church in her youth.
After graduation, she began working at the Black Lantern Restaurant in Camden as a short-order cook. Her mother worked with her as a waitress. Diane was an excellent cook. She inherited her mother’s cooking talents and helped to make holiday meals very special. Then she went to work at Harden Furniture for forty-three years in the upholstery and rubbing departments. She retired in 2016.
On July 16, 1993, Diane married Michael L. Hayes at their home on Florence Hill Rd. She and Mike had a wonderful marriage together. They enjoyed going to garage sales and hosting sales at their home. Together, they had many nice trips, especially enjoying New Orleans. They purchased the summer home of Lester and Bette Quinn called “Idle Acres” to enjoy in their retirement. They only had a few years to enjoy their property, but the time they had there was enjoyed by them and their family and friends.
Diane was predeceased by her husband on October 1, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was also predeceased by her parents, her brother, Tim, her brother-in-law, Danny “Jovial” Hayes, and her sister-in-law, Laurie Hayes Britton.
Surviving are her stepson, Senator (Meaghan) Hayes; her step-grandsons, Mason and Lawson; her two sisters, Donna (James) Christmas, and Susan Fanning; her brother, Tom Fanning; her three sisters-in-law, Judi Hayes, Sharon Comstock, and Carol Hayes; a brother-in-law, Jim Britton; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place in Fish Creek Landing Cemetery in the spring. The family will hold a celebration of life at a future date. There are no public calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to the LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc., 109 Main St., Camden.
