Barbara Grace Farnsworth 91, passed away peacefully at her home in Pawling, NY on February 28, 2021.  Born January 9, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY she was the daughter of Elmer C. Johnson and Florence Stowell Smith.  She was married to David G. Farnsworth on November 17, 1967 and was predeceased by him on November 17, 1978. She is also predeceased by her sister, Ruth Camacho.
Barbara dedicated her life to raising her family and helping others. She led a dynamic life, starting out as a feather sorter in a New York City factory and a waitress in the 1940s and 1950s. She later worked alongside her husband, David G. Farnsworth, at Camden’s Farnsworth Printing in the 1970s. Barbara’s tenacity and natural culinary skills and love for providing to others led her to become a restaurateur in the 1970s and 1980s, and then a food service provider at Head Start in the late 1980s. She became a family care provider for the Capital District DDSO for twenty years until her retirement. As a creative spirit, Barbara was self-taught in as a porcelain doll-maker. She appreciated the beauty in the world, and contributed as an avid gardener.
Barbara’s door was always open to help others. She passed this value on to her children, and she unwittingly built a legacy from her generosity. Anyone who was blessed to meet Barbara knows this well. No one left her home hungry, or without a hug, kiss, and a loving word. Her vivacious spirit, laugh, and Brooklyn accent will be missed but never forgotten.
Barbara is survived by four sons, Robert Shapiro, Michael Shapiro (Nancy Boula), Drew Cox (Louann), and Andrew Farnsworth; two daughters, Linda Torchia and
Tamara Farnsworth (Cheryl Moore); David’s children – whom she loved as her own, Anne Farnsworth, David Farnsworth (Chris), Michael Farnsworth (Lisa),
Teresa Farnsworth, and Kyle Farnsworth (Amy); brothers Elmer C. Johnson (Leslie) and Robert Smith (Patricia); and eighteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 1-2:00pm from LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc.,109 Main Street, Camden, NY. Spring interment will take place at Forest Park Cemetery, Camden, NY. Charitable donations can be made to the Northeastern Association of the Blind at Albany

I remember all the fun we had together. She was generous, loving and kind. Every time we visited she cooked up a feast for us. We spent a memorable summer together at the farm in Cobleskill. That was in 2001. Chuck built a garage for her and I gardened and painted. I will miss her but I have so many treasured memories.
