Josephine ‘Josie’ Wheeler Van Winkle, 83, of Williamstown, NY passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at her home. She was born July 17, 1937 in Ricard, NY a daughter of Kenneth & Mildred Sparks Wheeler. On June 7, 1956 she married James L. Van Winkle. In 1974 she and her husband founded the Queen Central News in Camden, NY where she devoted many years of countless service. She also worked at Williams Stationary for many years. Josie was a life time member and Past President of the Williamstown Vol. Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary and was active with the Field Day committee. She also enjoyed working in her flower garden, riding her golf cart and making her famous molasses cookies.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and will be missed by many others that also called her Gramma Josie. Surviving besides Jim ‘Bullwinkle’ are their six daughters, Debi & Frank Scott, Altmar, NY, Donna & John ‘Chip’ Hamblin, Diane & Grover Trumble, Darla & Bryan Woodcock all of Williamstown, NY, Denise Kuc, Camden, NY and Dori & Shawn Montieth, Redfield, NY, one son, Jimbo & Melissa Van Winkle, Pulaski, NY, 19 grandchildren and their spouses, 40 great grandchildren, two sisters, Janice & Bob Oakes, Peg & Bob Kennedy, all of Altmar, NY, a brother, William & Pat Wheeler, Sodus, NY, four sisters in law, Giesla Wheeler, Germany, Beverly Wheeler, Oriskany, NY, Marjorie Baldwin and Karen Madrigal, San Bernadino, CA, and a treasured friend, Connie Gardner and several nieces & nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by three sisters, Doris, Joyce and Charlotte Wheeler and two brothers, Kenneth and Herbert Wheeler.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 4 -7 pm at LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc., 109 Main Street, Camden, NY. Funeral services will be private. Graveside services will be held 3:00pm Friday April 30, 2021 at Fairview Cemetery, Williamstown, NY. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Williamstown Vol. Fire Dept.,
