Josephine ‘Josie’ Wheeler Van Winkle, 83, of Williamstown, NY passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at her home. She was born July 17, 1937 in Ricard, NY a daughter of Kenneth & Mildred Sparks Wheeler. On June 7, 1956 she married James L. Van Winkle. In 1974 she and her husband founded the Queen Central News in Camden, NY where she devoted many years of countless service. She also worked at Williams Stationary for many years. Josie was a life time member and Past President of the Williamstown Vol. Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary and was active with the Field Day committee. She also enjoyed working in her flower garden, riding her golf cart and making her famous molasses cookies.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and will be missed by many others that also called her Gramma Josie. Surviving besides Jim ‘Bullwinkle’ are their six daughters, Debi & Frank Scott, Altmar, NY, Donna & John ‘Chip’ Hamblin, Diane & Grover Trumble, Darla & Bryan Woodcock all of Williamstown, NY, Denise Kuc, Camden, NY and Dori & Shawn Montieth, Redfield, NY, one son, Jimbo & Melissa Van Winkle, Pulaski, NY, 19 grandchildren and their spouses, 40 great grandchildren, two sisters, Janice & Bob Oakes, Peg & Bob Kennedy, all of Altmar, NY, a brother, William & Pat Wheeler, Sodus, NY, four sisters in law, Giesla Wheeler, Germany, Beverly Wheeler, Oriskany, NY, Marjorie Baldwin and Karen Madrigal, San Bernadino, CA, and a treasured friend, Connie Gardner and several nieces & nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by three sisters, Doris, Joyce and Charlotte Wheeler and two brothers, Kenneth and Herbert Wheeler.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 4 -7 pm at LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc., 109 Main Street, Camden, NY. Funeral services will be private. Graveside services will be held 3:00pm Friday April 30, 2021 at Fairview Cemetery, Williamstown, NY. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Williamstown Vol. Fire Dept.,

Although not an actual grandchild, she will always be Grandma Josie to me. RIP Grandma Josie. I am bless to be welcomed into this family for 36 yrs. You will be so greatly missed by many.

To my brother I am so sorry for your loss. The love in the last picture of you holding Josie in her last days, and her holding your hand showed the love you both shared. Treasure that memory and she will live in your heart forever. I love you.
To my nieces and nephew you are so lucky that God gave you so many beautiful years with your mom every family has their hardships but the love of a mother is never mistaken. She will live on in your heart forever. I am so sorry that you have to go through this and my prayers are with each and everyone of you during this large change in your life. Keep your memories alive and share them whenever you get the chance.
To my great nieces and nephews a.k.a. grandma Josie‘s grand children, your great grandma left a beautiful beautiful legacy ask questions and get answers if there’s some thing that you were too young to understand or know about your grandma she was a very wonderful wonderful lady and loved each of you so very much and through your memories she will live on in your hearts.
To my great great nieces and nephews a.k.a. grandma Josie‘s great grandchildren, some of you are so very small you never got to meet your great grandma and that’s sad because she was one wonderful woman she was beautiful inside and outside and had a heart made of gold. She would help anyone she could and her love for each one of you was so outstanding it out pouring. As you grow up be sure to ask mommy and daddy and your grandma and grandpa‘s to share everything about grandma Josie that way you will know exactly who she is without even seeing her. I can say that each and everyone of you are very very lucky to have had that woman in your life.
To all other family members I am very very sorry for your loss. Josie was a piece of gold and loved so many people. She love to help other people she loves her gardening and feeding her birds and watching them through the sunroom. Even her little birds will miss her who is going to be there to feed them now. And Dorothy and Daisy I’m sorry that you lost your best friend.
Josie I already miss you so much. I promise to be here for your children if they need me your grandchildren and your great-grandchildren I love them each so very much. I will try to take care of my brother but he is a little bullheaded and that might be a little harder task for me to do but I will do my best that is my promise to you. Please rest easy honey, let somebody make you molasses cookies now. I love you so much. I how much heart I have left because so many of my loved ones have been taking a piece of it to heaven with them. I am going to try to be strong but it is going to be a challenge. Thank you for teaching me and loving me.😘😘😘💋💋💋😇😇😇

I am so sad to hear of Josies passing. She has been around for as long as I can remember and a huge huge part of this community. It just doesn’t seem possible that she won’t be around. Hugs to all of you.

My condolences to Grandma Josie’s family, extended family and friends. I’m so sorry for the whole town of Williamstown as you seem to have lost an icon of the community. I am fortunate enough to know Dr. Hamblin and from her kindness and authenticity as my veterinarian for 23 years and can only imagine that those qualities were passed down from her Grandma. My heart goes out to all in your community. Rest In Peace Grandma Josie.
