Donald K. Oakes, Sr. 72, of Camden, NY passed away unexpectedly on July 27, 2021 at the Oneida HealthCare Center. He was born June 12, 1949 in Rome, NY a son of John & Virginia LaRock Oakes of Altmar, NY. On Feb 12, 1972 he married the former Darlene Randall of Camden, NY. Don had worked at the Rochester Shoe Tree factory, Harden Furniture, McIntosh Box & Pallet and for the last 16 years he worked for Walmart in Rome, NY. Don loved to play BINGO and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife, Darlene, a son, Donny & Patty Oakes, Rome, NY, a daughter, Tammy & Henry Shaw, Camden, NY, five grandchildren, Ashley & Kenny Fox, Brandon Shaw, Adam Oakes, Rebecca & Stephen Davis and Austin Oakes and four great grandchildren; Brian Fox, Evelyn Fox, Wyatt Oakes and Elijah Oakes, six brothers; Jon & Tina Oakes, Syracuse, NY, John & Cheryl Oakes, Mexico, NY, Robert & Janice Oakes, Altmar, NY, Dean Oakes, Boonville, NY, Ronald & Rosemary Oakes, Altmar, NY, Gene & Zona Oakes, SC, six sisters; Louisa LaCelle, Pulaski, NY, Patricia & Stephen Randall, Central Square, NY, Linda & Kerry Robinson, Pulaski, NY,  Sue & Kevin Haywood, Central Square, NY, Diana Haywood, Mexico, NY and Doreen Smith, SC and several nieces & nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Betsy Skinner, June 2021.The family would like to thank Drs. McKay, Hassan and Reed, along with Jessica Donaldson, NP for their care and compassion.
Calling hours will be held from 9:00 am until noon Saturday from LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc., 109 Main Street, Camden, NY. Graveside services will be held 1:00pm Saturday at Fish Creek Landing Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00pm Saturday at the Grape & Grog, Camden, NY. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the family.

So sorry to hear of Don's passing. I knew him from the Rochester Shoe Tree and many, many years after. He was always popping up when I didn't expect to see him. Prayers for the whole family. Diana Kinney
